WHAT WE DO

Tangent Services helps private firms and public agencies navigate the complex world of railroading. Frustrated by the complexity of the railroads our clients turn to us for effective negotiations and positive communication. In doing so, we prevent stranded investments and missed opportunities.

Tangent can also explain the basic requirements for effective railroad service by assessing existing infrastructure and operations.  We frequently make recommendations to improve these infrastructures to make them more suitable for modern railroad operations. Additionally we also evaluate potential development sites for compatibility with rail service which effectively leads clients through the railroad evaluation and approval process.

Tangent understands State and Federal funding programs and has provided application support. We work with clients to describe the project and partner with engineering firms to provide conceptual plans and phasing alternatives. We have written applications for the last two ConnectOregon funding cycles, the Oregon Rail Spur fund and have also assisted with Federal TIGER grant applications.

Experience counts and we are well versed in developing business cases for new rail opportunities. We have knowledge of commodities which move by multiple modes into, out of and within different states. We then combine this knowledge with financial analysis to provide preliminary conclusions as to whether or not a rail business line is worth pursuing.
